RS is first to stock new range of Siemens communications modulesOxford, UK, 21 May 2012 - RS Components (RS), the trading brand of Electrocomponents plc (LSE:ECM), the world's leading high service distributor of electronics and maintenance products, has expanded its stocked offer from Siemens across Europe by more than 10% to over 20,000 products. The extended range includes key product families such as SITOP, LOGO!, S7-1200, SCALANCE and SIRIUS, all of which are available for next day delivery. It also includes the latest communications processor for the SIMATIC S7-1200 programmable logic controller (PLC) which RS is the first to stock.
The new CP 1242-7 communications processor is a key addition to the automation and control range from RS, the company's primary technology focus in the maintenance sector. The module connects the S7-1200 PLC to the GSM/GPRS mobile wireless network, turning the controller into a telecontrol substation. This enables the centralised management of remote automation solutions in numerous applications across the industrial, engineering and utilities sectors, reducing maintenance and travel costs and negating high network infrastructure costs.
The expanded industrial communications offer from Siemens also includes new additions to the SCALANCE X unmanaged switches product range. These Industrial Ethernet switches and media converters are the low cost solution for setting up Industrial Ethernet topologies, making them ideal for implementing machine networking with different transmission media at a reduced rate.
Kevin Thompson, General Manager Maintenance at Electrocomponents, commented: "Our stocked offer from Siemens is proving to be of great help to industrial companies that want to avoid carrying unnecessary stock for their maintenance or design requirements. The expansion of this product range, together with recent extensions to our trading relationship with Siemens across Europe and Asia, has reinforced the importance of our global strategic partnership. Alongside our eCommerce offering, this gives us a key advantage in the automation and control sector."
"Our strategic partnership of more than 20 years continues to grow in both Europe and Asia to the benefit of customers worldwide," said Uwe Haeberer, Head of Business Development of Siemens Industry Sector. "Our technological leadership associated with the leading eCommerce and logistics infrastructure of RS Components provides substantial benefits. We will continue to develop our offer together to better meet the needs of customers."
