SABIC's new multimodal portfolio creates new opportunities for household, industrial and chemical packaging industries
21/10/2013 Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC)
SABIC, as a leader in the global polyethylene (PE) market has expanded its High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) portfolio with new multimodal grades for blow molding applications. The new grades are expected to address the rising market need for multimodal products and the growing concerns from customers regarding the long term security of supply.SABIC launched new multimodal grades for bottles and containers within household, industrial and chemical (HIC) applications. This high performing range - which includes SABIC® HDPE Vestolen A BI5822 and SABIC® HDPE Vestolen A BI5828 – delivers a superior environmental stress-cracking resistance (ESCR). Test results show that the ESCR achieved for this new range is more than double the ESCR recorded by comparable bi/multi modal materials currently used within the market. This opens the possibility to enhance the efficiency of the production process, offering SABIC customers a high performing, stiff, lightweight and robust material. Ultimately, these properties can enable improved weight-out and cycle times.
"This new portfolio reflects SABIC's commitment to the packaging industry and demonstrates our strong customer-driven focus. We provide our customers with a secure supply of high performing multimodal grades, helping them to improve their products and gain a competitive edge in their respective markets. Moreover, we will expand this portfolio with new grades from our European and Saudi Arabian production facilities in the near future,†says Mario Scholle, Business Manager HDPE at SABIC.
Moreover, SABIC will launch an additional new range of multimodal grades which covers the entire range of blow molding applications: varying from small bottles and containers for HIC applications, up to standard and UN approved jerry-cans and large 220L drums (tight and open head). The new grades have excellent low die swell characteristics that meet the packaging industry's most stringent demands, for example for the (UN) packaging of dangerous goods. Their mechanical properties exhibit a clear advantage when compared with other conventional materials with identical density and melt flow. Also these new multimodal resins open the possibility to enhance the efficiency of the production process, supporting converters to improve their sustainability performance.
Gerrit-Jan Bekink, Technical Marketing Engineer HDPE at SABIC, adds: "SABIC is an established market leader in the delivery of tailored material solutions for the dairy, household and industrial chemical industries, with many years of experience in the blow molding market. These developments are the next step in our global strategy to invest in new technologies and products, and will help us meet the rising product requirements from our customers while also ensuring long term supply.â€
The new multimodal portfolio is being showcased at K-Show 2013 in Hall 6, Stand D42.
