Siemens focuses on SCADA users at the WinCC Open Architecture User Days in London

Siemens has showcased version 3.14 of its industry-leading supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) software, WinCC OA, which includes many of the most sought-after feature updates requested by product users.At what has become a much-anticipated annual event, Siemens also outlined the roadmap for the release of V3.15 in December 2016 of and highlighted how user feedback is driving product development.
Some notable additions include: an updated KPI wizard; JavaScript connection allowing users to write new widgets for WinCC OA; object-oriented panels with a scriptable interface and the ability to define public functions; and multi-tenancy properties to display multiple views of the same plant model to different users. Other features added following user feedback include performance statements, persistent and conditional breakpoints for debugging, plus layout enhancements to the GEDI.
Features now available in the latest V3.14 include a mobile User Interface (UI) for iOS and Android, which has been refined with adaptive design for different device classes. Classes are self-defined, so each user can configure which elements they see on their smartphone, tablet, and PC interfaces.
The announcements were made during the 13th annual WinCC User Day held at The Crystal in London, Siemens' global centre for sustainable cities, which incidentally is entirely controlled by WinCC OA. Over 280 delegates from across the globe gathered to receive the announcements and learn how WinCC OA has been applied to a number of high-profile projects by Siemens' Solution Partners.
Siemens UK & Ireland Chief Executive, Juergen Maier, delivered an opening speech celebrating the £140bn investment the UK is making in its infrastructure and energy sources over the next five years, with projects such as Crossrail, Thameslink and the Heathrow/Gatwick airport expansions. He concluded that "the future is bright, as long as the UK remains in the European Union."
Afternoon sessions at the event focused on WinCC case studies from CERN, Humboldt Wedag, Applied Industrial Systems, and Cleverdist to demonstrate the product's flexibility and best practice applications for a number of sectors.
