SPRING INTO ACTION AND IMPROVE YOUR PREMISES

THE SPRING months are always a popular time for businesses across all industries to enhance the visual appeal of their premises and the trend appears to have started earlier than normal this year, according to workplace equipment supplier Slingsby.

The company supplies more than 35,000 workplace products including an extensive range of maintenance equipment and products that can improve the appearance of a building, including signage, street furniture, traffic management systems, smoking shelters and cleaning materials.

Lee Wright, Group Sales and Marketing Director at Slingsby, explains: "During spring we always experience a surge of sales to businesses that are making improvements to their premises. This year is no different although the mild winter means lots of workplaces appear to have started their maintenance programmes earlier than usual, with many businesses stocking up with cleaning products and outdoor equipment since the start of the year, rather than waiting for winter to end."

Lee continues: "Business premises that are smart looking and well-maintained help to portray a professional image and give customers a good first impression. However, it can be easy for business to overlook the significance of this and those people who see a building everyday often won't notice its pitfalls in the same way as someone looking at it for the first time. This makes it important to look at a building as objectively as possible, when deciding what improvements to make."

Slingsby has compiled a list of top 10 tips that businesses should follow to ensure their buildings are attractive and inviting to customers and visitors:-

By the end of winter, salt and dirt can often leave concrete areas looking filthy but a pressure washer can help bring them back to life quickly and easily.

Signage on a building is the most obvious way of communicating what a business does. It should be clear, easy to read and concise. Any damaged signage should be repaired immediately.

Grounds and gardens should always be well-maintained and a few plants can help a business bloom by enhancing how a building looks. Wood-chip or gravel are cost effective ways to quickly tidy up pathways and redundant areas.

When making improvements, keep the environment and the building's eco-credentials in mind. Adding solar panels and green technology can keep a property relevant in the modern world and also help to reduce overheads.

Parking areas should feel safe and ensuring they are well-lit and properly maintained can help this.

Fencing and gates that are freshly painted and in good condition demonstrate that you take security seriously.

A smart looking outdoor seating area always looks inviting during the summer months.

All visitors will pass through the entrance to your building so it should be clean, well maintained and lead into a smartly presented reception area.

Everyone can benefit from a spring clean and there's no doubt that working in a clean and tidy area can increase productivity. Plus carpets quickly accumulate dust and dirt over winter so shampooing them in spring can make a big difference to their appearance.

Curtains and blinds also need cleaning at least once a year to keep them looking fresh although it might be pointless if the windows need cleaning. Dirty windows look unsightly from the outside and also block out natural light.
