Terra Firma energises the grid with future-ready power solutions from Finning UK & Ireland

In a stride towards sustainable energy provision, Terra Firma Energy has acquired nine hydrogen-ready Cat® CG170B-20 2.3Mwe natural gas gensets from Finning UK & Ireland, the world’s largest dealer of Cat power solutions. These gensets are poised to supply on-demand power, bolstering the national power grid's stability during peak demand or when conventional power sources falter.

Engineered within pre-designed enclosures and equipped with custom radiators and exhaust systems, the gensets adhere to stringent noise pollution standards, not exceeding 75dBA@1M. These units stand out for their eco-friendly footprint, boasting reduced nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions of 250, and possess the versatility to transition to hydrogen, paving the way for a greener future in power generation.

Martin Byrne, Sales Manager – Gas Power Solutions at Finning UK & Ireland, said: “The shift towards backup power systems capable of utilising sustainable fuels is not merely a response to tightening regulations; it's a reflection of a deeper commitment to environmental stewardship. Terra Firma's investment in these versatile gensets is a testament to their foresight in adopting power solutions that are not just compliant, but are leading the way towards a greener, more resilient energy landscape. These gensets, ready for hydrogen, signify a crucial step in transitioning to alternative fuels, highlighting Terra Firma's dedication to sustainable operational practices.”

Elaborating on the technical sophistication and service framework of the gensets, Byrne added: “The bespoke design and installation of these gensets are tailored to seamlessly integrate with Terra Firma's existing operations, ensuring optimal performance and minimal environmental impact. Beyond the specifications, these assets are designed to be connected and monitored, enabling proactive maintenance and service interventions. This connectivity ensures not only the reliability and efficiency of the gensets but also aligns with our commitment to providing comprehensive support throughout the lifecycle of the power solutions.”

Dan Keanan, Business Development Manager at Terra Firma Energy, said: “Our collaboration with Finning enables us to address the dynamic needs of the power grid with solutions that are not only reliable but also environmentally conscious. The expertise of Finning in delivering and maintaining cutting-edge power solutions ensures that we can continue to contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.”

Finning UK & Ireland remains dedicated to supporting Terra Firma, emphasising the importance of regular maintenance and service to maximise uptime and efficiency of the gensets, thereby reinforcing the reliability of on-demand power solutions.
