TFP Hydrogen Products to Partner with Cathodic Protection in the Development of High Performance Water Treatment Systems

TFP Hydrogen Products are delighted to announce that the company has entered into a joint cooperation agreement with Cathodic Protection Co. Ltd regarding the development of high efficiency, durable and low maintenance electrochlorination systems. The technology is used effectively in marine anti-fouling of oil and gas platforms, power stations, and in desalination plants.

David Hodgson, Managing Director of TFP Hydrogen comments that: “This agreement builds on many years of close collaboration between the two companies, already resulting in the development of some highly effective electrochlorination systems. The new arrangement will build on this past success and enable us to access new market opportunities; utilising the two companies different skill sets to create high performance electrochlorination and copper chloride antibacterial systems for both marine anti-fouling and water treatment applications.”

TFP Hydrogen Products are specialists in the development and manufacture of materials for electrochemical technologies. The company is built on decades of experience in both electrochemical and nano-materials, providing the knowledge and experience necessary to understand and interpret specific system requirements and create durable electrode coatings which deliver high performance and efficiency in a range of operating conditions. As well as developing materials for electrochlorination systems, TFP Hydrogen also manufactures a range of solutions for PEM electrolysers, fuel cells and medical devices.

Cathodic Protection has been operating for over 70 years, providing complete cathodic protection and marine anti-fouling solutions.  The company specialises in consultancy, design and manufacture of bespoke cathodic protection materials and systems, delivering complex global projects which include the Thames Barrier in London and the Louvre Museum in Abu Dhabi. The company brings its extensive and specialist electrochlorination and copper chloride antibacterial systems knowledge and engineering capability to the partnership.

The primary focus of the agreement is the development of chlorine based anti-fouling systems for the marine market which use electrochlorination as part of the design. Electrochlorination is an electrochemical process used to generate chlorine-based disinfectant by passing an electric current through salt (or sea) water.  This is used to disinfect large volumes of wastewater or other industrial water and prevent bacterial growth. The technology can be applied to a number of industries, including power stations and oil & gas platforms where it can prevent bio-fouling of critical equipment, such as pumps, by filtering and disinfecting the water before it is circulated.

The cooperation agreement between TFP Hydrogen and Cathodic Protection provides an exciting opportunity to continue this already successful collaboration in the development of high efficiency, durable and low maintenance systems. This will enable growth in established applications such as marine anti-fouling as well as accessing new opportunities.
