The British Safety Industry Federation prepares for an exciting Safety & Health Expo

The countdown to the Safety & Health Expo has already begun and the British Safety Industry Federation (BSIF), the UK's leading trade body within the safety industry, is gearing up to make this year one of its best shows yet. The Federation is once again a show partner and is looking forward to contributing and hosting a number of events over the three days of the show in May.David Lummis, Chief Executive Officer of the BSIF comments: "Safety & Health Expo is the UK's leading event for the health and safety industry and provides a great platform for us to meet with both the visitors and exhibitors whist supporting the great work our members do. We have organised a number of activities including breakfast briefings, opportunities to meet overseas buying groups, and of course the BSIF Safety Awards and hope that these will provide helpful additions for all of those who attend the show."

Start polishing up on those acceptance speeches as the BSIF is looking forward to announcing the winners of the BSIF Safety Awards 2012 at a high profile reception at Safety & Health Expo on Tuesday 15th May 2012.
As in previous years, there are three award categories: The BSIF Service Awards, The BSIF Safety Excellence Awards and The Product Innovation Awards. The Product Innovation Awards will be separately judged by a panel of eminent safety industry professionals.
The BSIF Safety Awards continue to underline the Federation's dedication to the highest standards within the supply of occupational health and safety products and services. These awards recognise pioneering innovation, celebrate achievements and schemes that have been designed to reduce accidents/injuries and the creative use of new technology to develop innovative products.
Registered Safety Supplier Scheme (RSSS), and Counterfeit and Illegal Products
To counteract the increasing amount of counterfeit and illegal Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in the UK, the BSIF launched The Registered Safety Supplier Scheme (RSSS) to help guide purchasers of safety equipment to experienced and ethical companies that provide genuine and legal safety equpmient.
The Scheme, allowing members to identify themselves as having made a formal declaration that they are selling only genuine and legal products, is continuing to be a great success since its inception in 2009. Although the scheme is beginning to eradicate fake products from the UK, the BSIF still intends to take a strong interest in the close monitoring of the marketplace for counterfeit products and falsified certificates.
Fit2Fit Accreditation Scheme
The Fit2Fit RPE Fit Tester Accreditation scheme has now been in operation for three successful years and in that time the scheme has seen the successful induction of over 150 accredited fit testers, covering a wide range of industries including a significant number of individuals who now offer a 'contracted' RPE fit tester service. The scheme was originally introduced to raise the overall competence and awareness of RPE fit testing and to act as a vanguard to companies and organisations who wished to ensure their fit testing was undertaken competently.
Fit2Fit is now referenced in the HSE document HSE 282/28, and has been promoted by the HSE Asbestos Licensing Unit, becoming part of the information library HSE inspectors refer to within their working day practices.
