Have you ever wondered where your internet truly came from? MCS Test Equipment, suppliers of used and new electronic testing machines, has released an infographic, detailing the evolution of internet connections over the last 45 years. You can track the internet from its inception, all the way to the present day, covering everything from dial-up to wireless broadband. Not only has technology improved beyond recognition, but internet speeds have staggeringly increased, to the point where we can keep in touch with loved ones that live half a world away via video chat. With the rapid expansion in the digital and virtual landscape, the future of the internet is an extremely exciting prospect, with companies like Google further raising the bar and pushing boundaries.
Popularity Throughout The Ages
While compiling this infographic, MCS Test Equipment could reminisce over the very first "mobile phones", which were closer to a brick than the slim, smart models we have today. With increasing accessibility and ease-of-use, world internet consumers have risen from a few scientists in a lab in the late 60s, to more than 40% of the global population. This massive jump has largely taken place over the past decade: in 2000, world internet users only amounted to 7%.
In the previous decade, international internet users increased slowly and incrementally, but from 2000 onwards, there was an explosion in usage. Unsurprisingly, 2000 also saw the release of domestic broadband, establishing internet access with reasonably high connection speeds, which is almost certainly why there is such a surge in internet popularity during this time period.
More Changes To Come
What we can take away from this infographic is that, within a matter of decades, the technological landscape can change dramatically. By looking back to the start, we know can look forward to further innovations in the future, and start to imagine what kind of fantastic products will be released in the years to come.
