The BSIF Safety Awards deadline for entries is fast approachingThe deadline for the prestigious BSIF Safety Awards 2011, held at the Safety and Health Expo is fast approaching and potential entrants are now being urged to submit their entries by Friday 4th March 2011 to ensure that they stand a chance of winning the three award categories.
The BSIF Safety Awards have been taking place for the past ten years and are the only awards to promote the importance of product innovation and underline the highest standards of excellence within occupational health and safety.
The awards are made up of three categories: Product Innovation - new and innovative products that contribute to improvements in occupational safety and health; Service - award for companies in the safety field offering exceptional and innovative service solutions; and Safety Excellence (this award is open to BSIF members only) - recognises major improvements in occupational safety created in 2010/2011. The first two awards are open to any organisation providing occupational health and safety products and services that feels it can demonstrate the qualities needed for the particular category. Entry for all BSIF members is £80 + VAT, whilst non-members are charged at £160 + VAT for each entry.
If an organisation is lucky enough to win one of the highly coveted awards, the accolade provides an excellent promotional opportunity and the chance for the company to stand out amongst the crowd. Last year's winner for the BSIF Safety Excellence Awards 2010 was the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) who won the award for its Health Risks at Work Campaign. Bob Rajan, HM Principal Inspector of Health and Safety and Principal Strategist at HSE comments: "The Health Risks at Work Campaign was initiated by HSE, in connection with partnership organisations, to raise the awareness of occupational health problems amongst employers and professionals in Scotland and to implement sensible risk management solutions. The HSE was delighted to win the award last year and I believe as a consequence it further motivated the partnership team to drive the campaign at a much greater pace. Both BSIF members and others are now helping us to take the campaign to small and medium sized enterprises."
Bob concludes: "The BSIF Safety Awards are recognised worldwide within the health and safety industry as a quality award. Consequently, the small investment in time to fill in an application form allowing an organisation the chance of winning this honour is in my opinion worthwhile."
Additionally, Captain John Matthews, commenting on behalf of Fleetwood Testing Services (who won the BSIF Service Award in 2010) notes: "We were delighted to have won the BSIF Service Award last year. It is something that has definitely had a positive impact on the business both for our clients and staff. All of our clients are aware of the award and we believe that by winning this category it strengthened their view of us as a high performing test house and provided them with a benchmark to judge our service. Any award win for an organisation is always good for moral and helps staff to strive for greater customer satisfaction, it just so happens that this award had that extra 'sparkle' in the industry that meant a lot to the company."
David Lummis, Chief Executive Officer at the BSIF, concludes: "Year upon year, the BSIF is proud to host these highly coveted awards. It is hoped that within the three categories, there is an opportunity for every health and safety company to participate allowing them a chance to be publicly recognised within the industry. I wish all entrants the best of luck and for those companies who still want to enter remember to get your entries in asap."
The awards will be judged this year by a panel of eminent safety industry personalities and the winners will be revealed at the prestigious Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Safety Awards Dinner, in front of over 500 key industry safety users. The awards will give the winning manufacturers and suppliers pride of place at the event as well as contribute to the winners' standing and respect within the sector.
