Two Millionth Apprentice Starts
12/12/2014 Proskills UK Group
Proskills UK Group is delighted to hear that the government has fulfilled its commitment to starting 2 million apprenticeships in this Parliament. This important achievement highlights the continued success of apprenticeships since 2010 in giving people the skills they need to get on and in supporting businesses of all sizes to grow their talent.
Proskills UK Group is committed to the training and education of the people in our industries and apprenticeships are a vital component of this. To demonstrate its commitment to apprenticeships, Proskills UK Group has recruited a new Marketing Apprentice who has been taking great strides forward in the few months she has been working with the organisation.
Earlier this year, Proskills UK Group confirmed that they will be supporting Silentnight as they lead on the development of a new Furniture Making Apprenticeship Standard as part of the Government's Trailblazer scheme. A project which is supported by 106 employers in the sector.
Business Secretary Vince Cable said:
"Apprenticeships give young people the chance of a great start to their career and give businesses the skills they need to grow. I congratulate Silentnight, Proskills and members of the Furniture Trailblazer on the part they have played in reaching two million apprenticeships since 2010. However this is just the beginning. I am now calling for more employers to follow their lead and make apprenticeships part of their future."
The Furniture Trailblazer Steering Group Chair and Manufacturing Manager at Silentnight, Michael Dingwall, said:
"The trailblazer process is now well underway, with the third steering group meeting taking place next week. The support for these changes from the furniture industry has been excellent, with many employers giving up their time to ensure we get real value out of the experience. Working groups are now putting together proposals for the steering group to agree in many of the key occupations under the furniture maker apprenticeship banner and we are working towards a summer 2015 submission."
Jonathan Ledger, Managing Director at Proskills UK Group said:
"Employers are by far the best source of technical expertise and strategic direction needed to design the best apprenticeships for their industry and we will continue to support companies in developing qualifications and apprenticeships. We are proud to support employers in our sector and the Trailblazer scheme and to be part of the success that is getting people into apprenticeships."
The employers, who are part of the government's trailblazer scheme, design apprenticeships to meet the needs of their industries making sure people have the right skills to get on in the world of work and over 1,000 employers, large and small, are now part of the trailblazers, designing top-quality apprenticeships to address their skills needs.
