Video shows variable-speed drive saving £20,000 a year for bakery

A new ABB video produced with Energy Live News shows how a variable-speed drive is helping The Village Bakery (Nutrition) to save £20,000 per year at its Abenbury Way site in Wrexham.The video shows how the drive controls the speed of a depositing line, which is a conveyor-based system that divides the dough into the correct weights to make various rolls and loaves. The Village Bakery (Nutrition) contacted ABB because it realised that improved speed control could boost the efficiency of the new line.
The ABB general machinery drive is programmed with four different speeds, so it can optimise the speed of the conveyor to match the size and throughput of different products more accurately. The improved speed and accuracy that the drive brings to the line has led to a 10 percent reduction in tin release agent.
Christien Jones, director and projects engineer, says: "We are making energy savings of around 27 percent, as well as savings in release agent, ingredients and cleaning." In total, savings in production costs amount to £20,000 a year.
