Wide range of print options clinches Thermocode upgrade at Bodywise

Supplying a wide range of customers, including the NHS as well as adult and internet shops, 50 per cent of Bodywise's output goes overseas. The company already owns a Thermocode 5775, purchased more than a decade ago, which is still working reliably. But existing demands and future potential requirements meant the company needed to upgrade the amount of code and print formats it can apply for both domestic and overseas customers.General Manager Ray Sheppard explained, "Some of our lines run at 100 bottles per minute, so not only does the coder have to produce excellent quality printing, it has to be 'super' reliable. Our past experience with the older Thermocode led us straight to Open Date for its replacement. The 53S model is more than able to provide all the different codes and variable information needed for our clients."
"Another factor was the back-up provided by Open Date. They have always been able to solve any of the minor problems we've experienced very quickly. Even though we are based on the Isle of Wight an engineer, when required, is always with us within 24 hours." he added.
Currently the machine is applying codes on line to PETG plastic bottles which have had clear PP labels applied with a permanent adhesive. Looking ahead, the company needs the capacity to print data matrix codes, as well as the potential for other options as new products and packs are introduced. Thermocode's exceptional versatility will enable Bodywise to cover both existing and future requirements.
The Thermocode 53S is capable of printing at 500 cycles per minute for text between 1mm and 40mm on a maximum print area of 53.3 x 53.3mm. Print speeds can reach 400mm per second and maximum ribbon length is 350m. Printhead resolution is 305dpi and the menu includes date and batch codes, bar codes and graphics.
The 3.5mb memory includes foreign language selection and foreign character insertion. The memory can be expanded to 7.5mb and is Windows compatible.
