Winners of the EEF Future Manufacturing Awards 2013 announced

Awards ceremony celebrates best of British manufacturers and apprenticesThe national winners and runners-up of the prestigious EEF Future Manufacturing Awards 2013 have been announced at a grand ceremony celebrating the strengths of UK manufacturing. Shortlisted manufacturers from across the UK gathered at the EEF National Gala Dinner at the Grand Connaught Rooms, London, to celebrate their achievements.
The Business Growth Award, sponsored by Westfield Health, was awarded to manufacturers who achieved success through an actively managed and consistently delivered strategy. Specialised fire protection and insulation materials manufacturer Advanced Insulations plc was named national winner, and subsea technology manufacturer JDR was runner-up.
Bottled water manufacturer Princes Gate Spring Water Ltd won the Environmental Efficiency Award, sponsored by ENER-G, and TC Industries of Europe Ltd, a manufacturer of cutting edges for the earth moving industries, was runner-up.
New to the awards was the Sustainable Manufacturing Award, which was won by Vaillant Group UK Ltd, a manufacturer of products for heating and cooling water. Princes Gate Spring Water Ltd was also runner-up of the award.
Achievements in exporting were celebrated with the Export Growth and Export Development Awards, sponsored by Dunedin. Prosthetics manufacturer Chas. A. Blatchford & Sons won the Growth Award, whilst aluminium and iron castings manufacturer was runner-up. Competition for the Development Award was so fierce that two joint winners were announced; gas detection and safety systems manufacturer Trolex Ltd, and organic skincare products manufacturer Pai Skincare Ltd.
Manufacturers that fostered a positive health and safety culture in the workplace were rewarded in the new Health and Safety Award, sponsored by RKH Insurance Services. High-performance navigation software manufacturer UTC Aerospace Systems (Plymouth) was named winner and Briggs of Burton plc was named runner up.
Manufacturers' achievements in promoting engineering careers through activities with education providers were celebrated in the Partnership with Education Award, sponsored by JAM Recruitment. Precision 'O'-ring manufacturer Superior Seals Ltd was named winner and electronic drives manufacturer Siemens Motion Control was named runner up.
The Investing in Skills Award, also sponsored by JAM Recruitment, was awarded to stair parts manufacturer Richard Burbidge and Morgan Advanced Materials was named runner-up for developing their employees' skills and harvesting their talents.
leap from Pera Technology sponsored the new Operating Practices and Processes, and Smart Product Award. The respective winners were inspection equipment manufacturer Loma Systems UK and Chas. A. Blatchford & Sons, and runnersuup frozen food manufacturer Paramount 21 Ltd and Trolex Ltd.
Chas A. Blatchford & Sons was also named Winner of Winners for its ambition to delivering quality products to improve people's lives.
The new Manufacturing Champion Award, sponsored by Aldermore Bank, was awarded to Managing Director of Soil Machine Dynamics Andrew Hodgson, and runner-up was Managing Director of Brompton Bicycles Will Butler-Adams.
Apprentices were also rewarded for their achievements at the event; with the Outstanding Achievement by a First Year and Final Year Apprentice Awards, sponsored by EAL, and the Outstanding Achievement by a Young Engineering Student Award, sponsored by Rolls-Royce plc. The winner of the Final Year Apprentice Award was Daniel Holland from Airbus UK and runner-up was Kimberley Hill from Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S).The standard of entries for the First Year Apprentice Award was so high that two runners-up, Sion Lloyd of JCB and Matthew Watson of Canford Audio plc, were selected along with the overall winner, Aiden Rogers of Rolls-Royce plc. The Young Engineering Student Award was delivered to the most ambitious of young engineers; with Thomas Doyle unveiled as winner and Kate Ebblewhite as runner-up.
