World class Danfoss Power Electronics laboratory

According to UL (Underwriter Laboratory), the Danfoss PE laboratory is at the forefront. It is one of only a few who are certified to carry out a wide range of tests themselves - especially third-party testing regarding electrical safety. Being able to do this also means saving a huge amount of money and produces electrically safer drives.Just recently, the Danfoss PE laboratory had an extraordinary audit in order to implement the new UL standard - UL61800-5-1. The IEC 61800-5-1 was implemented at the same time.
During this audit, the Danfoss PE test and lab facility received praise from UL on the high standard of our conducting tests as well as our technicians' extensive knowledge.
Finn Matthiesen, R&D consultant for Danfoss says: "Just a few in our industry are certified to conduct these third party tests themselves in this wide range, and it is a huge advantage that enables us to meet our customers' expectations. Our customers' requirements for third-party approvals are growing with regard to UL and IEC electrical safety standards on the drives - especially in countries like Saudi Arabia. But at an overall level, many countries besides the USA are looking for the UL stamp on our drives because it is simply a certified and safe product.
Saving large sums of money and producing safer drives
If Danfoss were not certified to do the wide range of testing themselves, they would have to pay an external test facility to do the tests; and those tests would not be carried out before the final phase of a drive's development cycle.
Finn Matthiesen explains: "Doing the testing ourselves means that we can test at any point in the development phase of a drive. So the more drive failures we can discover in the different phases, the cheaper it is. And we can simply provide our customers with a more electrically safe drive".
Finn also predicts that Danfoss Power Electronics will be in front within the testing arena, because we are the only European company with members in the UL's standardizing forum. Finn is participating in STP 508C and the NEMA 1IS SC7 - both US standards regarding electrical safety on frequency converters.
