YOU'RE HIRED! MOSCA APPOINTS FIRST APPRENTICE
26/03/2014 Mosca Direct Ltd
Strapping specialist Mosca Direct has appointed its first apprentice as part of a scheme to train the next generation of engineers and technicians and support the continuing growth of its business.Alex Woltman from Nottingham has joined the company on a 12 month training programme within Mosca Direct's service department that will see him gain experience in all areas of the operation.
Alex's appointment coincided with this year's National Apprenticeship Week which is designed to celebrate Apprenticeships and the positive impact they have on individuals, businesses and the wider economy. Apprenticeships have been growing in popularity among both employers and young people according to figures released by the National Apprenticeship Service in February 2014. The quarterly Apprenticeship Index reveals a 24% increase in vacancies posted on the official 'Apprenticeships' website between August and October 2013, compared to the same period the previous year, and the Government is urging employers to create more positions in order to meet the increasing demand.
Mosca Direct worked with New College Nottingham's (NCN) Business-to-Business team in the selection process. Interested candidates applied through NCN and were shortlisted before interview with Mosca's Engineering and Operations Director, Julie Walton, at the end of February.
Commenting on Alex's appointment Julie said: "Alex really stood out as being bright and enthusiastic. We are really looking forward to having him in our team and seeing him through his apprenticeship."
Alex will be attending regular study release and is enrolled with NCN who will look after the academic elements of the scheme to enable him to gain NVQ qualifications.
Julie added that she was very pleased with the high volume of interest and applicants for the position, and on the outstanding level of candidates who were shortlisted. She was particularly impressed with the extra-curricular activities that the applicants were able to demonstrate:
"Their CVs may be lacking in relevant 'work' experience, but it is really encouraging to see these young people doing all they can to bridge that gap by using their own time and initiative to volunteer for social causes, enhancing their employability by gaining transferrable skills and demonstrating a real 'go get 'em' attitude."
Alex said he was delighted to be joining Mosca Direct Ltd, having seen the apprentice scheme advertised on the NCN website: "Mosca looked like a good company to work for, with great opportunities to earn and learn at the same time."
