A celebration at Cranfield - BHR Group 65th Anniversary Showcase 'Engineering our Future'

Celebrating over 65 years in business, on Friday September 20th the fluid engineering consultancy BHR Group hosted a celebratory Showcase to highlight what it is doing now and in the future for the local community, for British engineering and for its network of global clients. It was an opportunity for local dignitaries, schools, engineering associations, past employees and key clients to come together and celebrate past achievements, the present and the future.

Hosted by management and senior staff, guests from the local business community, clients, staff from local schools, members of technical Associations, senior academics from Cranfield University, former employees, MEP Richard Howitt, Councillors and civic leaders, were all encouraged to inspect some of the pioneering technologies developed at BHR Group and tour its extensive Laboratory facilities.

The day commenced with a Reception at BHR Group's site on the Cranfield University campus. Richard Howitt, MEP for the East of England, formally opened a Panel of Industry Experts who spoke around the theme of the afternoon, 'Engineering our Future'.

In endorsing the work of BHR Group, Richard commented that Research and Technology Organisations such as BHR Group play a pivotal role in taking knowledge that is developed by the science base and applying this to develop new or improved engineering products and processes. These organisations are the glue between academia and industry. Furthermore, he recognised that British engineering and manufacturing prowess are part of complex global supply chains and it is the engineers in society which often make dreams come true.

As part of BHR Group's Outreach Programme where the company actively engages with regional schools and colleges to promote engineering, the Showcase saw the opening of a water feature designed following a visit by local school pupils from Milton Keynes. The winner of the water feature design competition, Dhrew Chudasama, was accompanied by his parents, his teacher Frank Luikinga and the head teacher of Cedars Primary School, Lisa Munday.

Officiating at the opening of the water feature was Councillor Caroline Maudlin, Chairman of Central Bedfordshire Council, who spoke of BHR Group's impact on business in Bedfordshire. She noted that specialised high-value engineering companies such as BHR Group are vital to the region as they bring jobs and growth to Bedford. Indeed over the last 12 months, BHR Group has recruited ten graduate and post-graduate engineers and is still looking to recruit more.

In cutting the second ribbon, Councillor Brian White, Mayor of Milton Keynes, presented Dhrew Chudasama with his Winner's Plaque and spoke of the benefits deriving from the BHR Group Outreach Programme and the promise careers in engineering have to offer pupils such as Dhrew.

Finally, as EU Rapporteur for Corporate Social Responsibility, Richard was keen to learn more of BHR Group's Outreach Programme and commended the company on its water feature design project.

-€¢ Tony Soper, Principal Engineer, Millbrook Proving Ground Ltd.
-€¢ Peter Roberts, Managing Director of VerdErg Renewable Energy Ltd.

All the Panelists were in agreement, identifying the role and necessity of British high value engineering, such as that on offer at BHR Group, as being a key driver for economic growth and prosperity in the UK. 

Also in attendance on the day were the Lady Mayoress Mrs. White, plus local Ward and Parish Councillors from Cranfield.
