Chemical engineers praised during Volunteers Week

Thousands of chemical engineers have been praised for their volunteering work as the UK celebrates Volunteers' Week.The chief executive of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), David Brown, has thanked thousands of chemical engineers for their volunteering work over the past decade.
Over 5,000 voluntary roles have been undertaken by IChemE members during a period which has seen a significant growth in membership and recognition of the contribution of chemical engineers. Each year IChemE estimates its members' voluntary activity is valued in excess of £6 million.
David Brown said: "It is no surprise that IChemE has achieved some impressive results over the past few years with the major contribution that our members are making to advancing chemical engineering worldwide. This success is due to the support of IChemE members and, especially, the hundreds of volunteers that contribute their own time and expertise each year.
"As the UK celebrates Volunteers' Week, it is important that we publicly recognise the fantastic work of our members."
Volunteers' Week is the UK's annual celebration of the work of millions of people who give their spare time to support charitable activities and good causes each year.
IChemE members undertake a wide variety of practical voluntary roles across the UK including schools liaison, student representatives, mentoring, membership, publicity and promotion, treasurer, working with the media and helping to organise and participate in hundreds of events.
