Metso's intelligent stainless steel controllers chosen for Norwegian Goliat FPSO project

Online condition monitoring provides accurate and timely information concerning valve performance ensuring maximum safety at extreme sea conditions.Metso has won an order from Eni Norge and Statoil to supply latest generation stainless steel valve controllers to the Norwegian Goliat Floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) plant in the Barents Sea.
Goliat is the first FPSO plant in the world with all automated valves equipped with Metso's full range of stainless steel valve controllers.
Metso's intelligent controllers will equip all pneumatic actuated control, on/off and ESD valves of the plant and will help Eni Norge to monitor and report valve performance for asset management purposes. With all valves related information available, predictive maintenance is possible thus resulting in improved safety and minimizing operational and maintenance costs of the valves.
Metso automation's stainless steel controllers offering was selected because of its high reliability and its interoperability allowing seamless integration with control and safety systems for a better and constant monitoring of the whole valve network. This constant valve-condition monitoring makes possible the transfer of maintenance work analysis to an onshore location leading to the elimination of all unnecessary onsite maintenance work.
Goliat is one of the largest industrial projects ever in the High North and the first oil field to be developed in the Norwegian sector of the Barents Sea.
Metso's delivery to Goliat project will comprise more than 800 controllers.
Unique offering for upstream offshore industry

Metso's stainless steel valve controller offering for offshore customers includes Neles ValvGuard safety valve controller and Neles SwitchGuard intelligent on-off valve controller, intelligent valve controller Neles ND9300 for control valve applications and Neles Axiom, controller for standard on-off applications.
These products have already been selected for major projects like Total CLOV, Angola, Chouest in the USA, and Golden Eagle, UK.
