NEXT LEVEL OF MONITORING & TARGETING SYSTEM LAUNCHES

An improved version of the monitoring and targeting software, 'encompass' has been launched by npower, following the significant success of the original product released in 2007.Available in three versions, encompass analyst, manager and professional, encompass is a sophisticated monitoring tool that analyses energy use in detail.
Based on experience gained from the existing 30,000 sites already connected to encompass, a number of innovative new features have been developed to make it easier for energy managers to track energy consumption and reduction targets.
The first change that the user will notice is the introduction of a bespoke dashboard. This enables the energy manager to create and save a user-friendly dashboard report that features the most important and frequently used measures. Recognising that no two businesses are the same, encompass will track business-specific KPIs set by individual energy managers displayed how they want to see them on their unique dashboard.
While the energy manager has the capability to personalise what and how encompass monitors and reports on energy consumption, he is supported fully by npower. Feedback from customers indicates that one of the most valued features is the 'encompass support team'. The team allows encompass users to benefit from access to in-house energy management specialists. The team works with organisations to identify where savings can be made and ensure they are utilising encompass effectively.
npower has also been using encompass to manage its own consumption, so its own experience has fed into the development of the enhanced version.
"Our property portfolio covers everything from power stations and engineering workshops to call centres and office blocks and we have been using encompass since launch to manage energy consumption across these sites. This has proven to be invaluable in fine tuning what is of value to an energy manager," said Dave Lewis, head of business energy services at npower.
Much of this fine tuning has involved making encompass more user-friendly with increased functionality allowing energy managers to produce and amend their own reports more easily. These bespoke reports can be designed to meet the individual needs of users and can be used as supporting evidence when reporting back on the success of energy efficiency measures internally.
Other new enhancements include a feature which uses Google Maps to highlight which sites in a company's portfolio are performing the best against their energy reduction targets. The sites light up red, amber or green depending on their performance, providing an at-a-glance view on progress across an organisation.
Users can also set alarms to alert them to progress in terms of cost, carbon or consumption. This is particularly useful for full participants in the Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme as the system can alert them to their progress against the forecasted emissions. This will allow them to ensure they stay within the purchased emissions allowances.
Dave Lewis, continues: "Our original encompass product has been highly successful so it is great to now be able to offer an improved version.
"The enhanced encompass provides all the functions of the previous system, in helping businesses identify where and how energy is being used and implement measures to reduce it, but it delivers the information in a much more personal and business-specific way. The ability to produce bespoke reports and dashboard mean the system is more adaptable to the individual needs of the energy manager and organisation.
"It also provides a visual tool for staff engagement. For instance, companies may wish to display the Google Maps graphic internally, which will clearly highlight those sites which are the best performers for reducing their energy consumption.
"We offer a full support team and training when required, so we hope our new and existing customers will find using the new encompass as straightforward as possible."
