Protection, monitoring, and switching of DC loads without any electric arcs

Sustainable production in which renewable energies are used begins with the establishment of an industrial DC grid. With Contactron ELR HDC, Phoenix Contact provides a multifunctional DC switching device whose modern semiconductor technology, in combination with proven DC relays, switches arc-free and thereby ensures a long service life.

In the switched off state, the relays in the power path provide electrical isolation at both positions. Contactron ELR HDC is used in DC grids wherever energy needs to be exchanged between sources, loads, and the grid itself at so-called DC branches. In addition to switching up to 55 A at up to 810 V, the device performs additional tasks that are necessary for operating a DC grid. During operation, the miniature circuit breaker monitors particularly important parameters and also makes them available for process data acquisition. If the operating current exceeds the set maximum value, Contactron ELR HDC switches off with a time delay, up to a very fast short-circuit shutdown. The device also switches off in the event of an undervoltage or overvoltage in the input.

The miniature circuit breaker charges capacitors in the output up to the input voltage so that current peaks are avoided during switch-on. In addition, Contactron ELR HDC has a digital input/output and a communication interface for integration into network environments. Users can easily adapt the device parameters to their requirements via the network or with the clipX Engineer parameterization software from Phoenix Contact.
