Test equipment specialist leverages smarter storage capability at its new Harrow warehouse for the best availability of products

Harrow, UK: July 2011: Microlease, the leading test equipment rental and asset management organisation has announced that it is now successfully utilising new state-of-the art premises to store and maintain its significant equipment inventory.The 27,000 square foot facility at Waverly Industrial Park in Harrow, Middlesex, houses twice as much inventory than Microlease's previous premises. Equipment is stored in a 7,400 sq ft warehouse which is located next to the laboratory to minimise product movement using 6.5 metre-high Kardex Shuttle XP automatic retrieval racking systems.
Taking up a minimum footprint, the new storage system makes maximum use of the height of the warehouse, better enabling Microlease to stock a broader range of products. It is fully automated and has a modular design which works on the 'goods to person' principle, enabling stock to be organised and retrieved quickly via a user-friendly key pad and maximising speed of delivery for customers.
The Kardex storage system is linked to newly-implemented IBM POWER7 servers, which guarantee security integrity and quality of data. The servers bring increased speed and capacity to Microlease that will enable virtually unlimited expansion and support further growth into new markets.
Other new innovations currently adopted by Microlease include liquid-foam packaging, which moulds around each instrument to ensure that it is not damaged in transit, and high-tech fans, which ensure equipment is maintained at a consistent optimum temperature.
"As part of Microlease's capital investment programme, we have continued to make substantial investment into equipment in the last 12 months, adding to the substantial inventory already under management, worth in excess of £231m," says Microlease chief executive, Nigel Brown.
